Fox TV News 35 Orlando filmed extensively at the 2009 SOS world record event hosted by Skydive Deland January 15-18, 2009. Unfortunately, their local TV coverage was limited due to major news associated with the crash of US Airways flight 1549 into New York’s Hudson River.

By now most you of have probably already heard that SOS has established a new world record - 48!! Congrats to all and mega kudos to Russ and Julie Manhold for organizing an outstanding event.
This means we need to start preparing now to have enough qualified individuals to break this record in 2010. One of the ways that preparation can be made is to come to the SOS big way skills camp at Elsinore in April 2009.

The brand new Holiday Inn located 2 miles from the DZ has graciously offered us a group rate that is not ever given. The rate is $79 per nite and includes (for Priority Club members) a free breakfast each morning. Priority Club is a free membership which can be done online or at the hotel when you check in. I have set aside a block of rooms and will probably be able to add more, but it would be best to make your arrangements ASAP so that all can be accommodated. Please call the hotel direct at 800-315-2621 to make your reservation. Ask for the SOS rate. Do not book online as you will not get this rate. Vom 14.01. bis 19.01. sprangen ein Rekordteam und ein Standbyteam um den bestehenden SOS-Rekord aus dem Jahre 2008 in Elsinore von 43 zu verbessern. Das Rekordteam bestand aus 48 SOS-lern aus USA 39, Südafrika 1, Canada 2, Österreich 2, Australien 1, Italien 1, UK 1 und Deutschland Helmut Thiel. Die ältesten Teilnehmer waren Bill Jones und Pat Moorehead, beide 78 !!!
Am 17.01. war es soweit: aus einer Skyvan und zwei Twin Otter wurde der Rekord aus 18.000 feet gesprungen und 12 Sekunden gehalten! Nach dem Rekord wurde der angestrebte 60.way mit SOS´lern aus dem Standbyteam aufgestockt. Drei Versuche haben leider nicht gereicht. Für die „Nachrücker“ Walter Steinlehner und Volker Cornils war es eine wertvolle Erfahrung mitgesprungen zu sein. Frank Schnekenburger ist im Standbyteam gesprungen. Am letzten Sprungtag haben wir noch einen Euro-Achter mit fünf Punkten geflogen.

81 Teilnehmer stehen fuer den Record bereit.
vier deutsche Kandidaten sind dabei:
Helmut Thiele, Walter Steinlehner, Frank Schnekenburger und Volker Cornils.
der bestehende Rokord von 2008 :43 SOS.
Es ist springen ein Rekordteam mit 45 und ein Standbyteaam mit 36.
am Freitag, den 16.01. ist mit den 18.000feet-spruengen begonnen worden.
Nach neuem Rekord wird die Groesse der Rekordformation erhoeht.
Es ist unverschaemt kalt in Florida. Der Regen hat am Mittwoch aufgehoert.
